ClearOnc Frequently Asked Questions
General Information

An expert physician from Moffitt will review the treatment records and provide a second opinion directly to the treating oncologist.
- Is ClearOnc a medical provider? No. ClearOnc is an information and technology platform. We do not provide medical advice, diagnoses, or treatment. Always consult with your oncologist or healthcare team for medical decisions.
For Patients & Caregivers
- How much does it cost to use ClearOnc? For many, ClearOnc is provided as a fully covered employee benefit by their employer or health plan, meaning there is often no out-of-pocket cost for the member.
- Do I have to change doctors? No. ClearOnc is used to support your current doctor(s).
- Can I share my ClearOnc reports with my doctor? Yes. ClearOnc will send a copy of the second opinion to your referring doctor.
- How can I check if my employer uses ClearOnc? You should check with your human resources department.
- How can I suggest that my employer offers ClearOnc? You can speak with someone in your human resources department about adding ClearOnc as an employee benefit.
For Employers
- How can I partner with ClearOnc to offer it as a covered benefit for my employees?
-
We are happy to share how we are working with employers to design benefit offerings that enable wellness and prevention for expert medical opinion. We find that oftentimes the first cancer diagnosis is changed up to 40% of the time and that results in a change of recommended treatment plan as well 25% of the time.
- Our per member per month allows for peace of mind for employers who wish to provide a benefit that aligns with prevention and ensures the member has the right care plan at the right time. We follow your members through their care journey - from first diagnosis to changes in treatment and survivorship.
Security & Privacy
- Is my health data safe? Security is our priority. ClearOnc is fully HIPAA-compliant. We use encryption to ensure your personal health information (PHI) remains private and protected.
- Do you sell my data to third parties? No. We do not sell personally identifiable information. Any data used for research is strictly de-identified and used only with your explicit consent.
For Healthcare Providers
-
How do I request a second opinion for my patient?
-
Check Employer Coverage: First, verify if your patient’s employer (e.g., Lantern) provides ClearOnc as a covered benefit. If they do, the cost is typically fully covered by the employer.
- How do I access clinical trials for my patient? If applicable, expert physicians at Moffitt Cancer Center will identify and recommend any clinical trials for which your patient may be eligible.
Troubleshooting
- I forgot my password. What should I do? Click the "Forgot Password" link on the login page. You’ll receive an email with instructions to reset it within minutes.
- The platform isn't loading correctly. ClearOnc works best on the latest versions of Chrome, Safari, and Firefox. Clear your browser cache or ensure your "Private Browsing" mode is turned off.
What should I do if the ClearOnc recommendation is different from my original doctor’s treatment plan?
- It is not uncommon for medical experts to have different perspectives, especially with complex diagnoses. If your ClearOnc second opinion suggests a different path:
- Don’t Panic: A different recommendation doesn't necessarily mean your first plan was "wrong." Medicine often has multiple valid approaches, and our experts may be looking at the latest clinical trials or specialized data available
- Review with Your Original Provider: We strongly recommend scheduling a follow-up with your initial treating physician to discuss the ClearOnc summary. Often, the best path forward is a collaboration between both perspectives.
- Consult Your Employer: If your second opinion benefit is provided through your employer (such as through Lantern), you may want to reach out to your benefits coordinator to see what additional navigation or coverage options are available to you based on these new findings.
How do I talk to my doctor about a second opinion that disagrees with them?
- The most effective way to start this conversation is by sharing your ClearOnc Patient Summary directly with them. You might say: "I sought a second opinion to be as thorough as possible, and they suggested a different approach for [Treatment X]. Can we look at their reasoning together and see how it compares to our current plan?"
